DoubleDive ("we", "our", or "us") operates the DoubleDive mobile application and website at doubledive.ai (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Service.

By using DoubleDive you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address. You may optionally sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft — in that case we receive only the email address and display name provided by those services.

Photos and problem content

When you scan a problem, the image is sent to our servers for processing (OCR and AI analysis). Images are used solely to extract the problem text and are not stored permanently after processing is complete. Your solved problems and notebook entries are stored and associated with your account.

Usage data

We collect information about how you use the Service — problems solved, subjects studied, XP earned, streaks, and session activity. This data powers your personal progress tracking and our recommendations.

Device information

We collect a device identifier to prevent abuse of our free credit system and referral program. This identifier is not used for advertising purposes.

Push notification token

If you grant permission, we collect a push notification token to send you reminders and progress updates. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide, operate, and improve the Service
• To personalise your learning experience and track your progress
• To prevent fraud and abuse of the credit and referral systems
• To send you transactional emails (account verification, weekly digest) — you can unsubscribe from digest emails at any time
• To respond to support requests
• To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.

3. Data Sharing

We share data only with the following categories of service providers who help us operate the Service:

• Cloud infrastructure — our servers run on Railway (database and API hosting)
• AI processing — problem images and text are processed by Google Gemini AI under Google's data processing terms
• Email delivery — transactional and digest emails are sent via Resend
• Analytics — we use PostHog for product analytics; data is anonymised where possible
• Error monitoring — we use Sentry to capture application errors; error reports may include device type and app version

All service providers are contractually bound to use your data only to provide the services we request.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance reasons.

5. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and secure credential storage. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

6. Children's Privacy

DoubleDive is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@doubledive.ai and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Correction — request that inaccurate data be corrected
• Deletion — request that your data be deleted ("right to be forgotten")
• Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
• Objection — object to certain types of processing

8. Cookies and Tracking

The DoubleDive web app uses localStorage to store your session token. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Our analytics provider (PostHog) may set a first-party cookie for session tracking.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by displaying a notice in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
